What Does Insulation Really Do?
A well insulated home, particularly one insulated with fiberglass insulation, is one of the most cost-effective ways of saving energy and reducing heating and cooling bills while adding to the thermal and acoustical comfort of a home.
Brown Lumber’s Installed Insulation Division uses only Guardian Fiberglass Insulation. Fiber glass is the insulation of choice in 85% of American homes because of its thermal performance, permanence, resistance to moisture, resistance to settling, fire safety and cost.
Many homeowners don’t realize that with the proper amount of insulation, they can reduce heating bills. The Installed insulation Division has been successfully evaluating and insulating homes for over five years. Our services include blown-in or batt installation for new construction or existing structures.
How Much Insulation Do You Need?
The amount of insulation a home should have will vary depending on where it is located and how it is built. The U.S. Department of energy has put together thermal recommendations based on geographic zones.
Insulation is identified and labeled by R-value. “R” stands for resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. When insulating a home, it’s not only important to get the appropriate R-value for your climate, but also that the thermal performance lasts over the life of the home. While R-value “per inch” is promoted by some, the overall R-value installed is what counts. Our product can be blown in an attic to nearly any R-value. We will determine your R-value based on the type of heating and area of your house.
A Last Word About Insulation..
Finally, perhaps the most important consideration of all is the installation of the insulation. Regardless of the insulation type, the full R-value can only be achieved with proper ventilation in the attic. If the vents are blocked, icicles and ice damming will occur resulting in shingle damage.
Backed by Brown Lumber and Guardian Insulation, the Installed Insulation Division can evaluate and assess your insulation and ventilation needs. Whether it be residential or commercial, new construction or an existing structure, our insulation team has the technical knowledge and training to complete the job while adhering to the highest standards in the industry.
Insulation is one of the most important contributors to the energy efficiency of a home. Make the right choice and start saving money and energy in a more comfortable and valuable home.
