In Service to our Community!
Brown Lumber Company has historically been very active in the Grand Traverse Area Community. In addition to countless donations to numerous organizations of material for projects (parade floats, school projects, handicapped ramps, and community projects such as the Civic Center, Senior Center, etc.), Brown Lumber Company makes annual monetary donations to local charities principally that benefit children and the assistance they often need. Examples include St. Francis School, TBAYS, North Star Soccer Club, Pathfinder School, Boys & Girls Club, Paperworks Studio, Women’s Resource Center, Between the Fences, 4-C’s Council, United Way, Father Fred, House of Hope, among others.
Past community service initiatives include sponsoring of the Lumberjack Show during the 2005 National Cherry Festival, raising awareness and funding for the Goodwill Inn; Father Fred’s Frostbite Food Challenge, Our "From the Heart Program", where we donate one percent of any purchase to a local organization of that customer’s choice. In 2006, Brown Lumber hosted the first inaugural Brown Lumber Classic Car Show and through a summer-long initiative raised $20,000 for Munson Medical Center’s Pediatric Oncology Clinic.
Probably our proudest moment came in 2004, when we sponsored over 300 WWII veterans on their trip to Washington, DC to witness the dedication of the WWII war memorial. What started out as a substantial financial burden became truly a community effort, as people in the Grand Traverse area came forth with their support, both in time and money. We were very impressed with the assistance everyone provided, and it strengthened our commitment to continue to “give back” to a community that in fact has made our success possible.
